Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hit out at the club's fans for expecting too much and not supporting his young side enough.

Despite being fourth in the league and top of their Champions' League group, Wenger and his side have incredibly come in for some flak from Arsenal fans after defeats to Fulham and surprise package Hull City.

Wenger says his squad is in transition so asked shareholders to show support at the club's Annual General Meeting on Thursday.

Despite having limited funds - compared to the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea - following the club's move to the new stadium Arsenal's demanding fans are hungry for success.

They have not won the Premier League title for four years and their last trophy was the F.A Cup in 2005.

Wenger said: "Through the years we have always been at the top level and we always want to win trophies - but the most difficult thing to achieve is consistency.

"I agree we have not won the title for four years, but if you look at the history of this club, for 25 years we did not win the championship - and there are also massive clubs who have not won the league for 30 years.

"I believe this team needs a strong guide to go through difficult periods, because at the moment I do not feel that, either from the media or our supporters, this team gets the support that it deserves."
