Just when you thought St Albans Council's Planning Dept couldn't get any more authoritarian... there is news that they are insisting on planning permission for a small shed - on an allotment.
You don't even need permission for a small shed in your garden, so why on an allotment? At a time when the Council should be going out of its way to encourage local food production, this is just crazy.

miscellany, says...

Although sheds or greenhouses are not supplied by the Council, these may be erected with the written permission of the Council"
This is taken from the Council's allotment web page. However, as an allotment holder for over 20 years, as far as I am aware, nobody has ever written to ask the Council for permission to put up a shed! And most plots have one.......
So this sounds very much like scare-mongering. I'm sure the Council has better things to do than waste time on such a trivial issue.
Where has this rumour come from and can it be verified?
